During the late 1920s and the 1930s, the motion picture and television industries sought to improve their products. Scientists and engineers worked to create more vivid color and definition and richer sound. Colorscope was one such invention. Invented by Harold H. Sheldon and Dr. Walter A. Schneider, colorscope matched colors exactly - more exactly than possible with the human eye. To do this, colorscope relied on a photocell that could react to colors of light. A tiny electrical current operated the relays or meters. Colorscope was demonstrated in New York City in 1930.
