1884: Albert Warner, who was born in Poland on this day in 1884, founded Warner Bros. Pictures, Inc., with his three brothers. Among the first of the great Holloywood studios, Warner Brothers gave the world the first "talkie" -
The Jazz Singer, which starred Al Jolson. Later, the studio produced many of the American film noir classics, such as
The Maltese Falcon and
Casablanca. In the mid-1990s Warner Brothers founded the WB television network.
