Today In History; St. Joan of Arc
1412: During the Hundred Years War, charismatic teenager Joan of Arc was told by the voices of saints that she had been chosen to save her country. On July 16, 1429, she led the French to a military victory over the English at Orleans, then led Charles the Dauphin (prince) triumphantly into the royal city of Rheims to be crowned king. Joan was captured by the English in 1430 and burned at the stake the following year as a witch. In 1920 the Catholic church declared her a saint.
