Today In History; Jefferson Davis Inaugurated
1861: Jefferson Davis was an American soldier and politician who became the first and only President of the Confederate States of America. Elected to a six-year term, he served throughout the American Civil War and later wrote A Short History of the Confederate States of America. In 1978 Congress posthumously restored his US citizenship.
