June 29, 1929: Langley Field, California was the place where the first high-speed wind tunnel was completed on this day in 1929. The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics had a field laboratory there and began work on the design in 1928. Although the tunnel has now been deactivated, the laboratory was successul in designing a wind tunnel with a wind speed of 600 mph.
