Royal Greenwich Observatory Created

By Princessa

June 22, 1675: Charles II created the Royal Greewich Observatory in England in 1675. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the building was used for navigation, timekeeping and determining star positions. The observatory also published the Nautical Almanac which ascertained the longitude of Greenwich, which was used as the basis for time calculations. The Earth's prime meridian and the international time zones resulted from the almanac's popularity among navigators.
